How come I don't have the ability to sympathise with anyone or anything or get upset? Is that normal?

Actually, that degree of "never getting upset" is NOT biologically normal, despite what the people making facile comments about "desensitising culture" like to say. You may have something wrong with your amygdala, which is the area in the brain which usually "manages" many functions of emotion. It would be interesting to know, do you have difficulty realising when other people are upset -- do you sometimes miss subtle cues, and then people get mad at you because they think you *ought* to have known?
